Challenge

We were tasked to create an interactive display using Weather Underground's API capabilities for IBM SXSW. After a lot of brainstorming and research we came up with the concept of Tempo–using real-time weather data, the app mixes audio tracks to create unique song at any given moment while delivering actionable insights that are all weather-related. The app itself is a perfect metaphor for SXSW as it's the intersection of art, data, design, music, tech, and motion.

Role

While interning at IBM, I worked on a multidisciplinary team of visual designers, UX designers, researchers and front-end development. We had a fantastic opportunity to create an activation for IBM's SXSW 2017 exhibit in Austin. I worked on this project as a researcher to identify the opportunities and did the front-end development.

Brainstorming

We all ideated on how to create an experience that relates to the concept of SXSW using weather data. The ideas were in different industries like health, music, and weather.

Refined Ideas

To get a better understanding and to refine the ideas, we came up with a persona who visit IBM SXSW booth. Our persona Stu is a developer who wants to learn about IBM services and network with people. He thinks IBM is a tech company.

Once we understood the persona, it helped us to figure out that smart forecasting weather is ideal for SXSW.

Front-end development

Since we had only three days to code the application using Weather Underground API. I took the initiative and helped the development team by coding responsive front-end for the application.
